In 2022, we ran two funding round which granted £80,000 pounds to 80 groups. These grants continue to support the ongoing work that resists the systemic violence affecting communities.

We also recruited a new Core Group with 4 new CG members joining the strategic team.

Although we didn't conduct an in-person Radical Sharing Forum, we held virtual spaces for groups to meet, introduce themselves and collaborate

  • Annual Report 2021-22

    August 09, 2022 4:30 PM

Despite not having any funding rounds this year (though just completing one at time of writing - July ‘22) there has been plenty of activity going on behind the scenes to make Edge run more smoothly and with more safeguards for staff and volunteers. Our hope is that these changes will help Edge Fund to be more sustainable in the longer-term.

In the year ended 31st January 2022 we continued our work strengthening our internal organisation after making the decision to work with an external facilitor to carry out an internal review in March 2021.

During the financial year the society worked with Pastel to overhaul and improve the website.

  • Annual Review 2020/2021

In 2020 our society had to respond to the challenges created by the Covid-19 pandemic. We created the Covid-19 Emergency Fund and the Rapid Response Fund, adapting our funding methods to allow the grants to be paid quickly when they were most needed. We adapted to enable Edge to continue to carry out its objectives whilst working remotely. In 2020 and 2021 we continue our work strengthening our internal organisation, making the decision to work with an external facilitor to carry out an internal review in March 2021. At the end of the financial year the society made the decision to work with Pastel to overhaul and improve the website.

  • Annual Review 2018/2019

    August 25, 2021 3:16 PM

2018 was a year of consolidation and growth for Edge Fund, as we continued our work funding grassroots groups, influencing other funding bodies, and doing much needed internal development. We hit our target of two funding rounds in the year, and continued work on integrating our funding model more closely with the groups we fund, allowing them through inviting the to become members of Edge Fund. It was also a challenging year as we lost a Regional Organiser and were understaffed for four months. Despite this, we welcomed our new RO and some changes to the Facilitating Group as well as the energy of new members.

This was a year of strategising for Edge Fund as we explored new proposals for how we give out grants (long-term and emergency) and reviewed our financial position and fundraising to take the organisation into a more sustainable place. We also reviewed our participatory grant giving model and looked for ways to ensure we are engaging activists and people working on the front lines of grassroots organising.

At the beginning of the financial year we were in the process of a review. Edge Fund has grown very quickly and we needed to respond to this by assessing where we were at and what changes were needed. The review consisted of writing a new values statement, devising a new staffing structure as well as making some more minor changes to the application process. You can read about our values on our website

The review process consisted of meetings held in both London and Manchester and then a final survey which 50 members took part in.

  • Annual Review 2014/2015

    August 21, 2021 3:20 PM

Our second financial year began with a review of our first year as a fully operating fund. As a young organisation committed to trying new approaches that fully live up to our values around justice and equity, we feel it’s important to take time to step back and see how we’re doing and to constantly evolve. The review process meant we only had one funding round during the year but it was far from a quiet year.

  • Annual Review 2013/2014

In April 2012 a group of donors and activists came together to talk about setting up a new fund which would support social change work as well as actively working to break down power dynamics in funding. Our approach is based on democracy, accountability and transparency and funding grassroots activism for systemic change. By January 2013 we’d raised over £100,000, became registered as a Community Benefit Society and had our first 15 members.
